Two inexperienced F-111 pilots made belly landing using a retractable hook
In the below video have a look at how Two inexperienced F-111 pilots made belly landing using a retractable hook
On March 2006 a General Dynamics F-111 Aardvark loses a wheel during takeoff at Amberley RAAF base after
Entire wheel including the whole rim, the Brake mechanism fallen off during takeoff
Pilot Peter coma and air-combat officer luke warner was flying F-111.
To make thing worse young pilot has landed f-111 only handful to a time before that incident
They made a couple of low flying right on top of runway in which they try to get as low as possible
To catch an arresting cable through the retractable hook they needed to get down to 6 to 7 feet low
On the first attempt to they miss the cable because the plane was now low enough to catch the cable
But during the second attempt, they successfully managed to catch the cable
They successfully made a textbook belly landing with 3000 liters of fuel.
Both pilot and the air-combat officer walked away from fighter jet as soon as they landed it
I wonder why they such a huge risk because a lot of metal was in contact with land during the belly landing
The fuel could easily catch fire! they should have dump it earlier
Nevertheless at the end of day, most inexperience F-111 pilot made a copybook landing
