Mercedes-AMG GT S Roadster Slots Into Middle Of Droptop Lineup

The specs are surprisingly close to the more powerful GT C Roadster.

Mercedes-Benz adds yet another model in the already large AMG GT lineup by launching the new GT S Roadster that sits in between the standard GT Roadster and the GT C version. It’ll arrive in the United States in late 2018

Like other variants of the AMG GT, the new S Roadster uses a version of the 4.0-liter biturbo V8, and it makes 515 horsepower (384 kilowatts) and 494 pound-feet of torque (670 Newton-meters) of torque in this application. In comparison, the standard GT Roadster has 469 hp (350 kW) and the droptop GT C packs 550 hp (410 kW). All of them have a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

the mercedes-AMG GT family has a new member with the 2019 AMG GT S roadster. the open-air sports car boasts a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, with 515 horsepower and 494 pound-feet of torque.

compared to the AMG GT roadster, the AMG GT S roadster is rendered even more dynamic by numerous modifications to the engine, suspension, brakes, design and interior. it has a top speed of 316 km/h and can reach 0-60 mph (1-100 km) in 3.7 seconds.

the GT S and GT C are visually very similar with the only real difference being that the GT S uses mercedes’ ‘artico/dynamica’ leather rather than the standard nappa leather seats in the GT C. ceramic composite brakes are optional with brake discs in size 402 x 39 mm at the front axle and 360 x 22 mm at the rear, together with specially painted brake callipers with ‘AMG carbon ceramic’ lettering. as standard the AMG GT S roadster is shod with mixed tyres on 19-inch rims at the front and 20-inch rims at the rear.

the soft top is a triple-layer fabric supported by a magnesium, steel, and aluminum frame. this helps keep the vehicle’s centre of gravity low with additional roll-over protection privided by an integrated aluminium cross-member.

the sales start date for the new mercedes-AMG GT S roadster is available to order immediately. the market launch starts from july 2018. pricing isn’t available yet, but expect it to be somewhere between the GT Roadster which starts at $124,400 and the GT C Roadster which reaches $157,000.
