Dubai's 340kph Corvette fire engines eye Guinness

Dubai Civil Defence (DCD) has asked Guinness World Records to register its customised Corvette Stingray vehicles as the world’s fastest fire engines.

The cars have been modified to hit speeds of up to 340kph.

Two of these $136,130 (AED500,000) Stingrays are already in operation, according to Lt Col Hussain Al Rahoomi, head of DCD’s station affairs department.

The number is likely to be doubled by the end of the year, Al Rahoomi said, according to Time Out Dubai.

Already, the cars have been used to tackle emergencies on Dubai’s major highways.

The cars have been modified to include monitoring devices to track road issues, and are fitted with fire extinguishers and first aid equipment.

According to the report, Al Rahoomi said he has a positive response from Guinness, which has confirmed “there is no registered fire truck that with the same specifications as ours”.
