Hawaiian Airlines could launch its first European destination with non-stop flights to London from 2021 following the debut of the airline’s new Boeing 787-9.

The Honolulu-based airline currently restricts its network to North America, Asia and the South Pacific, but CEO Peter Ingram sees the Dreamliners as vastly extending Hawaiian’s reach.

“While delivery is three years away and we have not yet examined in detail the different markets the Boeing 787 gives us a many interesting possibilities such as London,” Ingram told West Australian news outlet PerthNow.

Hawaiian Airlines already flies to Sydney and Brisbane but additional Australian destinations  “such as Perth were certainly options”.

But it’s London which could the prize for Hawaiian Airlines, even if it’d be a long stretch for passengers aboard the Dreamliner.

They’d certainly want to be in the aircraft’s business class cabin, which which airline spokesman tells Australian Business Traveller will feature “lie-flat product” along with “extra-comfort seat options” allowing for additional legroom.

However, he added that Hawaiian Airlines has “yet determined the seat layout or how many seats we will have.”

Hawaiian plans to take 10 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, with orders for ten more on table, with the factory-fresh jets replace some current Airbus A330-200 fleet “as needed, based on our future network and growth needs.”
