If the rumors are true, then the next iPhone will have a much clearer screen. This is good news for all Apple users. According to reports, the iPhone 7 will finally use AMOLED technology in their new model, which might debut next year sporting a bigger 5.8-inch screen. Another report adds that the suppliers are already gearing up for a huge jump in orders.
OLED is already the preferred screen tech used in many Android phones. Wondering what OLED stands for? Its full form is “organic light-emitting diode”, which is another way of saying that the screen doesn’t need a backlight. The screen responds to an electrical current to generate a color. Because of this, most people notice that the colour and vibrancy is better on those screens. The AM in AMOLED stands for active matrix, which means there’s a layer of TFT material on top of the OLED.
Samsung has been using OLED displays on its smartphones for a while now, and it’s proven that they’re better than the LCD displays used on iPhones. However, we’ll have to wait over a year until Apple’s fall 2017 event to find out if this news is true.
Apple’s quarterly sales fell for the first time in 13 years in the three months through March as demand for the iPhone fell. Tech experts have said that Apple needs new features to rekindle growth as the smartphone market is slowing as consumers take longer to upgrade their handsets.
